Propaganda

My piece is a take on The Indigo Child herself. When I hear the swelling theme of “The Indigo Child”, I have this recurring image of a propaganda poster. I see an idolized image of a very young woman that is worshipped like a deity. Her eyes are closed to the world because she has not accepted the burden of becoming what society wishes her to be. She will stand and be The Indigo Child when “she’s good and ready to”, but until then she is an idolized image in a painting.

My original thought was of this woman painted as a mural, with broken chains in one hand and life giving water in the other. A stylized version of the album art for Sunya is in my piece because that is purportedly where she can be found.

My work was heavily influenced by the art nouveau period from the 1890 to 1910. I used watercolor on paper with a red pencil and ink pens. Please note the shimmer! I am very proud of my watercolor paints because they are handmade at a local art shop in the Ozarks. No AI was used to generate images, and the pictures are raw and unedited.

This art piece and submission is a gift to my husband, who is a huge fan of the band! He has seen two live performances to date. (His favorite album is Act III, and my favorite song is Waves). I hope the band and the fans enjoy my submission as much as I enjoyed creating it!
